Video game composer

My name is Thibaut de Lafforest, also known as Oathr. I’m a French composer of video game music, a passion that has always followed me. I’ve been making music for more than 20 years and I’ve always composed. I started in game music when I was 16 years old, where I participated in an associative project (Heroes Alliances) before starting to create rock music projects (Ahimsa), then electronic music (The Hedrals) and finally ambient music (Nui Attarah) before coming back more recently to my first love, video game music. Rocked by Nobuo Uematsu or Jeremy Soule’s music, then fascinated by Tomáš Dvorák’s music, Disasterpeace, C418, Joe Bille and the whole neo-classical scene, I have a solid and singular background in video game music.

I am self-taught, I have an approach of music purely sensitive and not theoretical. My many hours of practice of the music production and various instruments allow me to have the technique necessary to the exercise that is the composition of music of games. I prioritize emotion before technicality and I like to record my own instruments (Piano, Clarinet, Saxophone, Hang Drum, Flutes, Guitar and Percussions) to give life to my compositions.

I am also convinced that video game music is a style in its own right and that it must continue to live outside this simple medium. It must offer strong melodies, but also a unique sound design, recognizable from the first seconds.

I also have a Master’s degree and a good experience in computer development (Web, C#, C++, Java etc.) and can intervene in your projects with confidence.

If you are touched by my style or my approach, don’t hesitate to contact me for any kind of project.
